Brookdale St. Peters created quite the “buzz” around the area about Alzheimer’s Awareness…literally.
Bev McBride, a resident of the community, wanted to do something different to raise money for the Walk to End Alzheimer’s. Her motivation was not just to fundraise but to honor her late husband, who had Alzheimer’s. So, she went to the community leadership and volunteered, if their fundraising goal of $1600 was met, to shave her head.
But to keep the event a bit of a mystery, her identity was kept secret during the fundraising efforts. For every $100 raised, a piece of a photo was added to a poster slowly revealing another clue about who it was that had volunteered to buzz their hair for this cause.
Then on September 9th, after the entire amount was raised, her identity was revealed and the head-shaving took place at a special Grandparent’s Day event.
Congratulations to the team and to Bev for their hard work!
