Brookdale Executive Vice President and President of Senior Living Cindy R. Kent recently shared insights about what it takes to lead people and an organization through the most difficult of times. She was a featured speaker during Vanderbilt University’s Owen Graduate School of Management’s virtual program “Owen Forward.”
Kent pointed out that, as the nation’s leading senior living provider, Brookdale has been a frontrunner during the COVID-19 pandemic, innovating to meet the needs of its residents, patients, and associates. She talked about the need for engaging residents with their families and new activities even as communities have had to practice social distancing. She applauded the “above-and-beyond” efforts of associates to provide high-quality care and service during an extraordinary crisis.
Kent shared that a high level of cross-functional teamwork supported Brookdale’s top priority, which is the health and wellbeing of its residents, patients, and associates. She stated the teams leveraged their clinical and operational expertise to implement a three-part plan of prevention, containment, and treatment. She said associates worked diligently to help prevent COVID-19 from getting into communities. When it did affect communities, then the focus was on containing it and providing residents and patients with high-quality care.
Kent was interviewed during this session by Owen professor of Health Policy Rangaraj Ramanujam and Senior Director of Development Brad Akard.
