Brookdale Senior Living invested $3.7 million to meet the growing need of seniors living with Alzheimer’s and other dementias in the Jacksonville area. Brookdale Atrium Way is expanding its dementia care services and creating dozens of new jobs in the local community. The senior living community now offers a full continuum of care with Independent Living, Assisted Living, Memory Care and Skilled Nursing. The community celebrated with a grand reopening on Thursday, June 7 and invited the public, medical professionals and families to come tour the new building.

The project is creating 37 memory care apartments for people living with Alzheimer’s and other dementias. The senior living community will feature the award-winning Clare Bridge program developed by Brookdale, the nation’s largest senior living provider. Clare Bridge focuses on providing meaningful and purposeful daily life for those living with dementia through programming and care tailored to individual interests and needs.

“When new residents move in, we learn as much as we can about their life stories,” said Juliet Holt Klinger, Brookdale’s senior director of dementia care. “We design programming that meets their interests, stirs their memories and matches their current abilities so they can be successful in their daily lives. This provides our residents with a sense of purpose and accomplishment that raises self-esteem.”

There are 5.7 million people in America living with Alzheimer’s and dementia today. The Alzheimer’s Association estimates by 2050 this figure will reach 14 million people with a cost as high as $1.1 trillion.

“We are expanding our memory care services to serve more people living with dementia and provide a greater range of services,” said Russell Ward, executive director of Brookdale Atrium Way. “As our residents’ needs change, residents will still have access to care at the community they call home.”

Brookdale Atrium Way is now offering tours and booking move-in dates. Do you have a loved one living with Alzheimer’s or other dementia?  Call (904) 724-4726 to find out more about Clare Bridge at Brookdale Atrium Way.
